Case Study Club

What did you do two years ago?

For almost four years, I ran a membership inside Case Study Club. We covered everything from portfolios, case studies, resumes, interviews, and everything in-between.

Members landed jobs at Apple, Google, Microsoft, Meta, and studios all over the world.

But one problem came up over and over again; Backtracking old projects.

Try to remember what you did on this day two years ago. Not exactly easy right? Especially the details.

Some members went from memory, some built folder systems or Notion templates. Almost none kept it up.

The problem; when something good happens at work, you have to stop and think, take a screenshot, find the right folder and drop it in. So it never happens.

The one place I do keep it up is my consultancy. Every month I send a short report with my invoice, so my client knows what they're paying for. The invoice is my cue, and it works.

So over the last few weeks, I built that cue into an app.

It's called Caseful, and it's a native Mac app that does the remembering for you:

I'm using it for my own client reports, and I'd love for you to try it too. The private beta is free to join, and beta testers get a big discount when it launches.

If you try it, hit reply and tell me what works and what doesn't. I read every message.

E. Knappe invoices, 1921

E. Knappe was a tobacco company in Lauterberg im Harz. Its brand name, Ekata, joins the founder's initials to the first syllable of Tabake, German for tobaccos. In 1921 its invoices were set in Admiral, an italic first cast in 1906 after drawings by the poster designer Julius Gipkens.

By 1922 the invoice had new borders, and eight-pointed stars had replaced the two smoking men. The type stayed the same. Florian Hardwig keeps them in a set on Fonts In Use called Weekly Invoice.

The Lightbulb Computer

The Lightbulb Computer by Guillaume Ardaud is a projector with computer vision, in the shape of a large lightbulb. It screws into a ceiling socket or sits in a battery lamp base. It sees where you point and projects onto any surface: a recipe on the counter, a map on the table, a family board in the hallway.

It is a prototype, and there is nothing to buy yet. Ardaud says every video on the page comes from a real, bulky setup, with no editing or effects. He worked at Apple for over 8 years as a prototyper and designer on Face ID, Apple Pencil and the iPhone camera system.
